Another Cake Story: Chocolate Nutella Cake Pops

CHOCOLATE NUTELLA CAKE POP

I've been a busy bee in the kitchen this week and this is the last of the cake from the other day when I baked too much. I can't ever send out food I make without testing it for myself...and let's just say...too much sweets this week isn't agreeing with my system. I'm going to gravitate towards more savory recipes after this.

Picture steps:
crumble cake and instead of using frosting, I'm using nutella.mix, form, and place into freezer to cool.
after the pops have cooled for a bit, melt some candy melt, dip and watch the candy coat form.
and then ENJOY!Follow this link for troubleshooting if needed, an entry I made in the past when I first played with the idea of cake pops/cake balls.

  1. I have a cake that I froze last because it didn't rise properly, and I was thinking of using it for cake pops. I don't have any frosting left, so I thought of nutella as a substitute. So glad you had tried it first! How much nutella did you use? I'm new with making cake pops.

    1. Cake pops are pretty awesome because you have a bit of leeway with how much nutella/frosting to use. The amount of nutella will depend on how much cake but my rule of thumb is usually add just enough so that the cake is nice and moist to mold but not too much so it becomes goo. If you can form a ball with the cake and it holds without crumbling (as pictured), then that's good enough, I'd start with 2-3 large tablespoon dollops to see where that takes you.

Here is a helpful link with actual amounts for frosting. I tend to use as little as possible when it comes to the frosting/nutella because I don't like it too sweet: http://www.bakerella.com/red-velvet-cake-balls/

I hope this helps and good luck!

    1. If they're coated with candy melt, they'll last awhile out of the fridge at room temperature. Even if its a warm-ish day it should last a few hours. I've never had them melt on me before so I think you should be fine :). Good luck with them!
